The Empire
The Aztec civilization began around 1150CE and lasted until 1521,when it was taken over by Spanish.
Normal Aztecs can lead dangerous but exciting lives. When you are 15, your parents decide to send you to a temple school, where you learn to read and write, or a school for young men, where you learn to fight.
in the battlefield, you are expected to take prisoners instead of killing. Some punishments for prisoners are sacrifice, and fighting a fully armed warrior with a feathered sword. Your wife will make food, and a medicine man will try to cure your sicknesses with herbs and ointments.
The Mexican used to live in aztlán,among six other tribes. altogether they were called the nahuatlaca. They lived peacefully, but they soon grew tired of their peace, so the tribes met together at a meeting tree. They called to the gods to tell them what to do with their life. Soon enough a lightning bolt met a tree and it shattered the tree into seven pieces. The nahuatlaca took this as a sign to spit up and go on their own way. The Mexica did not know what to do, and soon became outcasts. First they try to settle near Lake Texcoco, but they were quickly ousted by Tepanecs. Then, with the permission of the Culhuacan ruler Cocoxtil, they settled in Tizapan, at 1299. At the year 1325, Tenochtitlán was established.

How Geography Affected them.
Since the Aztecs literally lived in a giant lake, they had very limited farmland. To conquer this obstacle, they built Chinampas, which were basically a network of smaller islands around the mainland that housed crops and opened canal ways to paddle canoes in. Since they were mostly a farming culture, they mostly traded crops from their farm and other minor things that they had made or found. The Aztecs lived in a marsh, so food their wasn't scarce. If worse comes to worse, they can always depend on the many bugs found in a marsh. Some weapons they used to hunt were the same weapons that they used for war.
Whats Different from now?
There are many things different with not only the Aztecs, but every single ancient culture. Some changes we are glad of, such as sacrifices and ritual cannibalism. Other things we were sad to see go, such as the many ancient sports dominated the world a millennium ago. Needless to say, the world can change in a short amount of time. We don't dress our soldiers in leopard skins, or force prisoners to fight a fully armed man. What was completely normal to the Aztecs would probably make a grown man in the 21st century faint.
