There are many Aztec stories to be told, but a select few of them illustrate the success and fear of this ancient civilization, as well as descriptions of their gods. Many of these stories affected the Aztecs in a way that changed how they lived and what they did with their lives.
Tlacloc
The Aztecs had a god called Tlacloc, who was the god of rain. It is said that this ancient deity caused wrath among the people and caused sickness with his mighty lightning bolts. He also has 4 jugs of water. When he pours to first one, life will come to all plants. The second will cause blight among the people, the third jug brought frost, and the last one caused TOTAL DESTRUCTION.
Quetzalcoatl
In Mesoamerican mythology, Quetzalcoatl was a feathered-serpent god. What the Aztecs thought was that Quetzalcoatl was related to the winds and Venus, and was also the patron god of merchants, crafts, learning, knowledge, priesthood, and was attributed to the dawn. Quetzalcoatl was a very important go
Tonatiuh
What the Aztecs thought was simple: every era of people had a different sun, and with that different sun, there was a different god. The Aztec civilization believed that they were under the feet of the god Tonatiuh. "He" demanded sacrifices, and the people complied. This god was held in high regard since the Aztecs were fascinated by the sun, and studied it closely to make a solar calender similar to the Mayans'
Once upon a time...
This story is quite gruesome, so prepare yourself. Every 52 years, the Aztecs feared that the world was going to end. At that day, the fires that keep the entire city lit for 52 years were extinguished. Then every single person must destroy all of his/her belongings and replace them with new ones, or animal-demons will come to the Earth and devour every single living person. If this happened, pregnant women and children were able to escape this fate by putting on a mask woven from a special material.
And.....ANOTHER ONE
As the title suggests, here is another bright and cheery story. Two gods were responsible for creating the Earth. The made the sphere and flooded it with water. In the water lived a beast, always looking to eat someone. As soon as the gods saw this, the pounced on the monster and ripped it in half. One half became the land, and one half became the stars. Now the gods can create mankind safely.
